MARS Data Integration and Support : ECMWF’s data archive as an OGC Service

The Meteorological Archival and Retrieval System (MARS) is the main repository of meteorological data at ECMWF. MARS hosts operational and research data, as well as data from special projects. The archive holds an excess of 200 Petabytes of data, mainly using the GRIB format for meteorological fields and BUFR for meteorological observations. Most of the data produced at ECMWF daily is archived in MARS, and therefore available to users via its services.

EarthServer 2 Technology

The platform baseline enabling technology is constituted by the Array Database System, rasdaman, the outcome of EU and ESA funded projects, as well as clients developed jointly by user and tech partners in EarthServer. Rasdaman is part of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI). In EarthServer-2, it is in functionality, scalability, and ease-of-administration.

World Wind is an open-source (released under the NOSA license) virtual globe SDK, first developed by NASA in 2003 and since 2004 with the open source community, awarded as NASA Software of the Year in November 2009.

FeMME - Federated Metadata Management Engine

The Federated Metadata Management Engine is a schema-agnostic metadata management engine. It is designed to provide storage and access capabilities over an unlimited range of metadata models and formats, originating from multiple data sources.
